Horsey Seals
Every winter, hundreds of grey seals haul out on the beach at Horsey to give birth and nurse their pups. This remarkable wildlife spectacle is one of Norfolk's most popular natural attractions and it is completely free to visit.
When to Visit
The seal season runs from November to February, with peak pupping in December and January. During this time you can see hundreds of seals on the beach, from huge bulls to tiny white-coated pups just days old. Viewing is possible from the dunes above the beach.
Visiting Tips
Volunteer wardens are on site during the season to help visitors get the best views while keeping a safe distance from the seals. Wear warm clothing and sturdy footwear as it can be cold and windy on the coast. Binoculars are useful but not essential as the seals are often close to the viewing areas.
Horsey Windpump
While visiting, take time to see the National Trust's Horsey Windpump, a beautiful drainage mill overlooking Horsey Mere. The surrounding area is wonderful for walking and birdwatching.
Getting There
Horsey is about 30 minutes north of Great Yarmouth. There is a car park near the beach with a short walk to the viewing areas. Stay at St George Hotel and make it a day trip. Rooms at great rates.
